A fine quality antique Georgian mahogany side or tea table, dating from circa 1800.
This elegant Georgian table is constructed from beautifully figured solid mahogany and features a top which opens to provide an extended surface. The top sits above a simple plain frieze, with the whole supported on four square tapered legs terminating in traditional spade feet.
The combination of the rich figured mahogany, restrained decoration and elegant proportions is characteristic of the understated quality associated with Georgian furniture. The table is particularly versatile and could be used as an antique side table, occasional table, tea table or lamp table.
The piece has been traditionally and sympathetically restored to an excellent standard, whilst taking care to retain its original colour, character and natural antique patina. The restoration has been undertaken with the intention of preserving the qualities that make the piece an attractive example of early 19th-century Georgian furniture, rather than making it appear artificially new.
With its relatively simple form and warm mahogany colour, this is a piece that would work equally well within a period interior or as an understated antique accent within a more contemporary setting.
