A very good quality antique Georgian mahogany occasional table, dating from circa 1800.
The table has a beautifully figured solid mahogany rectangular tilt-top, allowing the top to be positioned vertically when the table is not in use. The top is supported by an elegant turned central pedestal which rises from a traditional tripod base with three gracefully swept legs.
The base features attractive inlaid stringing, providing a subtle decorative detail and complementing the rich figuring of the mahogany.
The combination of the tilt-top design, turned pedestal and swept tripod base is characteristic of the highly practical yet elegant furniture produced during the Georgian period. Its versatile size makes it particularly suitable for use as an antique side table, occasional table, lamp table or display table.
Condition & Finish
This table remains in very good original condition.
Rather than undergoing unnecessary restoration, the piece has been traditionally and sympathetically cleaned and waxed, retaining its original finish, colour and natural antique patina. The decision to preserve the existing surface is intended to maintain the authenticity and character of the piece.
